Dave is a Rutland, VT native now transplanted to Etna, NH. He received his BA degree in Economics at the University of Vermont where he met his wife, Ann. Immediately after graduating from UVM, he was employed by the Pepsi-Cola Co. on Park Ave. in New York City. After a brief training program he became a field representative and marketing consultant in the Eastern Division. Later he was promoted to Sales Training Director, Easter Division. Living in the New York City metropolitan area became too hectic and he and Ann moved back to VT where he managed supermarkets for the Cross-Abbot Co. and Martin’s Foods (now Hannaford).
In 1972 the opportunity arose to take over Ann’s family’s business in Hanover (Dartmouth Bookstore) as the current manager decided to retire. They moved to Etna where they built a home and still reside. Ann’s mother Phoebe’s family (Storrs) had owned the Bookstore since 1883 and her ancestors were some of the first to settle on the Hanover plain, so moving to the area was return to home for Ann. They owned and operated the Bookstore, expanding it another block down Allen Street and making it one of the largest independent bookstores in America. In 2004 they sold the business and retired to Etna.
Dave has served as a Selectman in Hanover, spent time on various Town Boards, served as President of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, and sat on numerous committees for the New England Booksellers and American Booksellers Association. Currently he is a member of the Hanover Improvement Society where he has served several terms as a Director, a volunteer at the VA Hospital in White River JCT., VT., and a member of PCW (formerly DHMC Overseer) since the 1980’s. He also serves on the NH State Workforce Investment Board. His hobbies include golf, biking, making maple syrup and raising hens.
