Director of Partners for Community Wellness
Karen is the first Director of the Partners for Community Wellness at Dartmouth Hitchcock. She works closely with the Chair of the PCW Executive Committee and members of the Executive committee of PCW and its Board, to bring this new patient centered vision for health policy, wellness, and effective healthcare into our communities and to bring the voices and vision for the future of wellness and innovative health policy from the communities we serve back to D-H and its affiliates.
Prior to joining Dartmouth-Hitchcock Karen was the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. As the development and communications leader she ensured that UNH Law alumni and donors experienced the satisfaction of seeing their philanthropic investments make an impact in fulfilling the law school’s mission and vision across the state, the country, and the globe.
Prior to joining the law school, Karen was the Director of the New Hampshire Judicial Branch’s Office of Mediation and Arbitration, a/k/a the “OMA”. Established in 2007, with the support of the NH Legislature, the mission of the OMA was to guide and promote the development of alternative dispute resolution programs; serve as an alternative dispute resolution resource to the courts, support the administration of alternative dispute resolution programs at all court levels, and facilitate pre-suit mediation or arbitration services to make high quality dispute resolution services more accessible to the general population in NH.
Karen also practiced law in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire for more than 13 years. She has been an instructor and facilitator for numerous trainings and workshops on mediation, both internally for the NH Judicial Branch court staff and mediators and for outside groups and organizations. Prior to working as a lawyer and mediator, Karen was the President and General Manager of WNNE-TV and worked as the Marketing and Development Director for Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, NH.
Karen is admitted to practice law in both Vermont and New Hampshire. She is currently the Chair of the NH Family Mediator Certification Board and is a former President and Vice President of the Grafton County Bar Association. Karen was the 2003-04 recipient of the Vermont Bar Association’s Community Service Award. She is a 1979 honors graduate of Middlebury College and a 1993 honors graduate of Vermont Law School. She is a member of both the New Hampshire and Vermont Bar Associations. Karen is an Adjunct Professor at Vermont Law School in Dispute Resolution.
